Before reading this, I would recommend that readers check out my, “What I’m About,” page to get a little information about my pets and what I will be doing in the future. But, without further interruption, I present my first post!
So my two fish are currently in a 20 gallon tank. My first goldfish, Pop, is a Shubunkin – Common mix. Pop is fully grown, at about 5 inches, though a goldfish owner can’t be too sure, as each fish will only grow to a certain size to better fit the size of their environment. My other fish, Sunny, is a Common goldfish, and is about 2 inches currently, but I am certain she will grow much larger. The thumb rule that I follow is that the tank should be at least 5 gallons per fish, but I would check with your local pet supplier as well. In any case, my fish are living in a comfortable size tank.
On to the contents of the tank! The basics of what should go into the tank are a plant (real or fake is your decision) and a hide – away of some sort. Things such as gravel or a filter are optional, in my opinion. If you decide not to get a filter, cleaning the tank is mandatory along with feeding your pets. I own a very basic tank, with no gravel or even a filter. However, we deep clean the tank every week. A post on how I deep clean my tank will be coming soon! The reason for no gravel was because it was simply harder to clean, and I, like many others, don’t see the need or have the time for gravel. However in the future, I may upgrade to a filter, making gravel a possibility. My tank features two fake plants, both of which are of a good quality. They also have a hide – away, in the shape of a log. When you have fish of this size, almost all items in the fish section of the pet store are too small. Therefore, I found myself looking in the reptile section. Believe it or not, every hide – away I have ever purchased for my fish was not meant for fish, but works perfectly fine. I encourage other pet owners to also be a little creative when it comes to the well – being of your pet. If you truly love them, you won’t always take the easy way out.
Thanks for reading! Please remember to follow my blog for other posts like these. Also, I would love if you commented what I could add to my tank or any other questions or comments you may have about your fish or Hermit Crabs! Who knows, maybe your question will be answered on my next FAQs!
